You are not alone if you have considered trying to quit smoking. Almost seven out of ten smokers say they want to quit. Smoking harms nearly every organ in your body, including your heart, so quitting is one of the best things you can do for your health. Smoking and secondhand smoke are responsible for nearly one-third of all heart disease deaths.
1: While vaping is less harmful than smoking, it is still not risk-free.
E-cigarettes heat nicotine (derived from tobacco), flavorings, and other chemicals to form an aerosol that you inhale. Tobacco cigarettes contain more than 7,000 chemicals, many of which are toxic. While we do not know exactly what chemicals are contained in e-cigarettes.
However, there has been an increase in lung injuries and deaths linked to vaping. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 2,807 cases of e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (EVALI) and 68 deaths in February 2020.
Vitamin E acetate has been identified by the CDC as a chemical of concern among people with EVALI. Vitamin E acetate is a thickening agent commonly found in THC vaping products, and it was found in all EVALI patients' lung fluid samples examined by the CDC.
The CDC advises people to:
1) Avoid using THC-containing e-cigarettes or vaping products.
2) Avoid obtaining a vape pen device from unofficial sources such as friends, family, or online dealers.
3) Do not modify or add substances to a vaping device that the manufacturer did not intend.
2: According to research, vaping is harmful to your heart and lungs.
Nicotine is the primary addictive ingredient in both regular cigarettes and e-cigarettes. If you ignore the craving, it will make you crave a cigarette and cause withdrawal symptoms. Nicotine is a highly poisonous substance. It raises your blood pressure and adrenaline levels, which raises your heart rate and increases your risk of a heart attack.
There are many unanswered questions about vape pen and vape juice, such as what chemicals make up the vapor and how they affect physical health in the long run.
3: E-cigarettes are just as addictive as traditional cigarettes.
Nicotine is present in both e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes, and research suggests that it is as addictive as heroin and cocaine. Worse, many e-cigarette users get more nicotine than they would from a combustible tobacco product.
4: A new generation is becoming addicted to nicotine.
E-cigarettes, particularly the disposable variety, are more popular among teenagers than any traditional tobacco product. According to the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey, more than 2 million middle and high school students in the United States reported using e-cigarettes in 2021, with more than 8 out of 10 of those youth using flavored e-cigarettes.
